I CHING oracles.
Journey into the Mystical World of Japanese Oracles, Rooted in Ancient China.
Nice to meet you.
People call me “Tsuide.” I work as a normal office employee.
Every day I hear many stories from people who are worried about life. I listen. I think. But sometimes I cannot help them in time. At those times, I feel like I have hit a wall.
Because of this, I chose another path: fortune-telling.
When I face a problem that I cannot solve by effort alone, when I stand at a crossroads and do not know which way to go, I turn to the I Ching.
Now I use that same I Ching to stand beside you.
I want to help you move forward when you feel stuck, and be a small turning point in your life.
On Medium, I share—primarily for English-speaking readers—stories about the I Ching and divination from a Japanese perspective, along with related histories of ancient China and Japan.
I participate in Medium’s Partner Program, where partners read one another’s work, sharpen our craft together, and revenue is allocated to writers whose stories are widely read.

What is I Ching Divination?
I Ching Divination is rooted in the ancient Chinese Oracle, utilizing the revered divination text 'I Ching'.
The name 'I' signifies 'Change', while 'ching' denotes a term of reverence for 'classic book'.
The 'I Ching' serves as an oracle, akin to a voice in a conversation rather than just a book. It offers wisdom and guidance, akin to conversing with a trusted friend and mentor.
How to Divine?
In the act of divination, you listen intently to grasp both the question posed and the oracle's response, as well as your own moment of realization.
The oracle communicates through 64 symbols known as 'hexagrams'.
There are various methods to obtain the oracle's answer, known as a 'hexagram'.
These methods include manipulating 50 sticks (known as the yarrow-stalk method), manipulating 3 or 6 coins, or manipulating dice.
Out of these methods, I primarily rely on manipulating 50 sticks. Occasionally, I also utilize the dice method.
Here's a brief explanation of the traditional yarrow-stalk method.

Once I obtain the oracle's answer, known as the 'hexagram', I proceed to interpret its meaning.
During this reading process, I consult the 'I Ching' book for guidance, which encapsulates the collective wisdom of ancient Chinese teachings.
I Ching in Japan.
Over the past 2000 years, Japan's unique culture has been shaped by influences from various foreign cultures.
Before modern times, Japanese culture was heavily influenced by Chinese pre-modern culture, blending with its own indigenous traditions.
The I Ching is a prime example of this cultural exchange. While originating in ancient China, the method of I Ching divination has evolved uniquely in Japan. The philosophical concepts of the I Ching have also left their mark on various aspects of Japanese society (‘Meiji’or’Shiseido’ come form I Ching word). Even today, this oracle is utilized by some Japanese individuals, including politicians and members of the entertainment industry.
